Bird Watching at Asan Barrage

Asan Barrage is located on confluence of river Yamuna and river Asan on Uttarakhand-Himachal border and gets its water from Asan river. In the wetland around the barrage, a lot many birds are habited. The barrage is famous for its winter guests-migratory bird coming from far and distant Eurasia between November and April. The prominent migratory birds include Shovellor, Common Pochard and Red Crested Pochard. The local birds include Night Herons, Cormorants and Egrets. The birds with beautiful feathers, Surkhab is also found here.

I happen to visit the place one recent fine morning and got ample opportunities to click the birds.

While we were watching birds in the water body, an eagle swooped down to pick up its catch and since I was ready with my camera, I got a shot of the eagle and the prey.

It was a really great experience to be there and my whatever little knowledge, surely improved a bit on that day. At one corner of the barrage, there is a small hydro power project known as Dhalipur Power House.
